8 Fashion Trends That Will be Big in 2021. What Will the Staples Be?

Products • 22/12/20

2020 was a wild ride and we are glad to see it almost over. However, the uncertainty we lived in for an entire year made it particularly difficult to predict what 2021 is to bring. Fashion trends often depend of lifestyles, and it’s too early to judge what will the next year look like. But there are certain trends we foresee taking over the market.

One of many years 2020 has taught us is that this is the best time to be conscious about how we dress and how our clothes respond to our personal values. With less demand towards consumerism, fashion trends are now mostly shaped by functionality, sustainability and inclusiveness – this is the key characteristic we expect to stay.

2021 will be largely about abandoning fast-fashion and one-off trendy items, replacing them by valuable, luxe quality staple pieces. We have prepared a list of items that are worth investing into right now for they will be a big hit in the upcoming year and quite some time after.

1. Knit bra

As discussed in our previous blog post, knit bras is one of the fashion trends that is rocking the world already. This modern take on undergarments can be both dressed up and down, and, most of all, it is more comfortable than a traditional bra. Cozy bras are easy to integrate into everyday wardrobe that isn’t focused around indoors either. Match them with cardigans, denims, trench coats or over a casual white t-shirt – you will not regret that.

2. Netting

It might sound odd now, but you don’t have to look far to confirm our thoughts on this. Dries van Noten, Burberry and Balenciaga have all introduced plenty of netting on their Spring 2021 runways. From netted dresses and tops that can be worn over a variety of clothing to details in designer sportswear, we can guarantee that netting is on the cards to be one of the biggest fashion trends of 2021.

3. Canteen bag

Covid has also taught us that we need to take better care of ourselves. Hydration is one of such things and now that we our fashion choices revolve more around comfort, it’s only natural that fending to essential needs is becoming a fashion trend of its own. Fendi, Givenchy and my more fashion powerhouses included a crossbody canteen to their collections. Not only is it comfortable but also addressing growing concerns about sustainability in the industry.

4. Platform flip-flops

Not everything about 90s fashion was bad and thus it is returning. Namely the elevated sandal style. Perfect with slip dresses, denim shorts and rompers, this will be among the hottest fashion trends when the warm months kick in.

5. Fashion joggers

With most offices still taking place in our own houses, loungewear and our love for it isn’t going to fade for a long while. But we have covered it multiple times it doesn’t give us an excuse not to look our best. It is predicted that the rise of loungewear seen during the pandemic won’t go away in 2021. After all, it is difficult to part with something comfortable!

6. Supersized tote

Remember when we were advised to avoid unnecessary shopping trips to the bare minimum and would try to cram our weekly shopping into one trip? That’s when the trend of supersized totes was born. Similarly to loungewear, it proved to be too comfortable to abandon even if there’s no more need for it. Convenience is quite possibly the biggest trend of 2021.

7. Two-tone pieces

This is a trend we can see already emerging in 2020, although it is still pretty shy. Most of two-tone pieces stick to half-black and half-white, but as the hype grows, we are expecting to see bolder solutions. We think this will be the most fun of all the 2021 fashion trends!

8. Shell Jewellery

While this was on the raise just two years ago, this trend is to come back in 2021. With the pandemic many of the beach holidays got cancelled and thus a cute shell necklace or an anklet could return some of the ocean vibes to our lives. It’s all about being positive!
