Martha Medeiros is both passionate and entrepreneurial. Her ready to wear, evening gowns and wedding dresses are all firmly inspired from her origins in Brazil. Growing up in Alagoas, Northern Brazil her grandmother taught her that her environment is where she should be drawing inspiration from. As such touches of terracotta, the cliff faces and ocean are prevalent across her dresses.
Prior to branching out to form her own label, Medeiros worked in retail with Maison M. A hugely prolific shop in Algoas throughout the late 80's and early 90's. Martha Medeiros wanted more, and she knew what she wanted to do, to work with her longtime love of handmade lace. A traditional Brazilian handcraft she took this as the basis for the main material, Brazilian “Renascença” lace is uniquely made for her by a group of more than 450 women artisans from small villages using a mix of with luxury materials, some the same used by Parisian couture houses .
Martha maintains a close relationship with these lacemakers through the “Olhar do Sertão” Project , from the Institute Martha Medeiros. Her relationship with them is divided into two distinct parts: the professional, through paid work and goals which allows them to increase their financial gain according to productivity. The other is the social care in several areas like education, health and financial independent.

Martha Medeiros is a huge asset to both Brazil and a dying out tradition, as such she has rescued the lace tradition that was destined to end and now these women see their lives transformed by the art of making lace.
Martha arrived in São Paulo in 2009, with the opening of an exclusive boutique in the area of Jardins. Following this Bergdorf Goodman in New York, Harrods in London and additionally part of a large lace exhibition in Calais - France. Not forgetting that she now serves numerous private clients in America, U.K. and Middle East.
Her talent does not end at ready to wear dresses, Medeiros also designs a line of home wear created exclusively for wedding parties, decorated with lace thread motifs.According to the designer, lace is the most refined Brazilian handcraft, made by women artisans who keep this precious ancestral knowledge in their very hands. “That’s true Brazilian luxury”, she declares.

All the hand made process present in all Martha Medeiros brand are extremely detailed and require extensive hours of work. A single wedding dress for example, that is made of “Renascença” lace could take a whole year of collective work.
