NYFW thus far…

What is happening at New York fashion week AW18?

Let us start with Bottega Veneta. Thomas Maier decked out the American Stock Exchange in a form similar to a Manhattan penthouse, which played host to the AW18 Show. A powerful acknowledgement of Bottega’s love affair with New York. He dialled in the superstars en mass to grace the stage, ranging from Gigi, Irina, Adwoa, Kaia and Binx. His opening look of gold silk pajamas, reconfirmed that nightwear is still outerwear and that the show was a delectable tribute to NY. This all coinciding with Bottega’s new 15,000 sq ft five storey townhouse that has opened in Manhattan. A ‘behemoth’ of a store labelled by Wallpaper magazine, featuring every category from the brand under one roof.

In stark and I mean stark contrast, Philipp Plein brought us a futuristic affair. In a very laconic explanation: a UFO hovered over a catwalk filled with artificial snow. You think that is a bit much. How about the UFO delivering Irina Shayk to a robot, who then courted her with Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me to the Moon. Yes welcome to 2018.

With regards to the actual outfits, think “Im going to Gstaad, Im not going skiing, just to drink and I want everyone to see me doing so from outerspace” . Another wonderful theme park of emotions from Plein.

Tom Ford gave us a an encrusted crystal bag for AW18, which read "Pussy Power." In the daily #metoo society this was sadly unoriginal.

Victoria Beckham was designing clothes that "As a woman, I really want to wear or dream of wearing.” She gave us silks that were both transparent and soft in colour, a common theme so far as a trend across NYFW. In summary, slightly oversized but not overbearing, a solid display in true connection to her pre-show comment that ‘Delicacy can be strong.’ We also cannot overlook the presence of all the Beckham clan sitting front row, smiles intact. Although, this could be the promise of meeting #saltbae later on, as shown on David’s Instagram page. #sorrymum.

Ralph Lauren gave us another see-now, buy-now New York Fashion Week collection comprised of summer time smartness in the form chic blazers, whimsical floral dresses and delicate yet crisp shirts. A tropical affair, the most dramatic feature would be the barefoot models. Nothing spellbinding just consistent.

And to concisely bring this round up to a close. The Prabal Gurung finale was led by both Gigi and Bella Hadid. Come on NY Fashion week, give us more to heighten our senses.
